If there’s one thing we have to thank the pandemic for, it’s teaching us to experiment with our makeup and beauty regimes. While the lockdown was all about keeping your skin looking fresh amid COVID stress, this year, we’re thinking more outside the box. With bright colours and y2k-inspired hairstyles hitting the scene, I can’t help but wonder if these post-lockdown trends are here to stay.

Here’s a roundup of my favourite trends in 2021 hair and makeup so far.

1. Its all about the Eyes!

In 2019, Euphoria-inspired makeup was all the rage. Since then, colorful eye makeup has only gotten more popular – especially now that we’re wearing masks. And as the temperature rises, the colours become brighter and brighter (Not that I’m complaining)

2. Get Ziggy With It

The 90’s girl in me in screaming! Y2k hair is taking the internet by storm and I’m here for it. The zigzag part will always be a personal favourite of mine. Such an easy way to add volume, and elevate your look, all while keeping it chic.

3. Artsy Graphic Liner

It’s time to give that black smudge proof eyeliner a well-deserved break and jump headfirst into coloured liners. From sharp cat eyes to swirly patterns, the possibilities are endless!

4. Reverse Cat Eye

This is a trend that is all over our Tiktoks lately, and it gives me MAJOR Avril Lavigne 2000s skater girl vibes. The reverse cat eyes is a fierce upgrade to your normal winged liner. It’s your basic eyeliner, with a small twist; it’s inverted, focusing the attention on your lower lash line. The result is a smoky, sultry undereye that wings out at the corners. PERFECTION!

5. Fool-Proof Skin? Fresh Skin

Lastly, the no-makeup-makeup look isn’t going anywhere, if anything it’s getting an upgrade. 2021 is all about lightweight base makeup and next-to-nothing skin, which is always great for warm weather and mask-wearing. All that hard work focusing on your skincare regime during lockdown is certainly not going to waste!

Which one is your favourite trend so far this year?
